What is Transformation?
Webster's Dictionary defines Transformation as "the operation of changing", or "an
operation that converts." Washington was one of
seven
original states to receive a
Mental Health Transformation State Incentive Grant. What makes this grant unusual is its focus
on system reform. The grant
requirements specify planning and implementation, supported with community organization activities,
research and evaluation and recommendations for change in service delivery. Over the next
five years, Washington State will advance a variety of changes to improve services. While
the grant specifies a number of changes
[

process in year one. Providers, stakeholders and,
most importantly, consumers of mental health services, are informing the Mental Health Transformation
Project (MHTP). Their guidance through the Transformation
Work Group (TWG),
Subcommittees
[

Task Groups

policy, funding, training and structural changes needed to improve services.
