Training Opportunities -- July 14 in Vancouver
How Media Can Influence Public Perceptions of Mental Illnesses and What You Can Do About It

June 11, 2009

Digg It

Social stigma against people with mental illness is alive and well in Washington State, creating barriers to recovery and wellness for thousands of individuals. Since public opinions are shaped by popular and news media, this training will help raise awareness of the ways in which media characterizations can be inaccurate, how language shapes community attitudes and how to work successfully with local reporters to provide accurate information about mental health.

The training is free and geared toward mental health providers, consumers, peers, reporters, and first responders. Upcoming trainings are scheduled for:

July 14, 2009 Registration Form for Vancouver, WA at the Clark County Regional Service Network

September 24, 2009 Registration Form for Burien, WA at the Criminal Justice Training Center

September 30, 2009 Registration Form for Wenatchee, WA at the Red Lion Inn

Five more trainings will be scheduled throughout the state during 2010. Watch for new postings.
